I’ve got some big news for you today..

Over the last few month’s we’ve been working on something which is super exciting, for both you and me!

We only want the absolute best people who lead from the front (through their actions), are a pleasure to work with and people who add value to your day every time you see them at the gym. And man, does this guy fit that description well!!!

Will Edgar (or better known as Bill), has spent the last 6 years working at Yamcom computer shop, fixing, selling and servicing all things computer related. He’s a great father to “Z” (Zion) and spends his spare time surfing, riding mountain bikes, listening to ear-splitting, nausea inducing “head-banging” music, killing things on video games, lifting heavy things and drinking lots and lots of coffee (Black – of course). As you can see from the above photo – Will leads from the front when it comes to his training and nutrition. Eats well, trains hard and has achieved an impressive physique….

Oh woops.. wrong photo!!!

The "new" Will

That’s better!

Just one of the reasons why we’re so excited about bringing Will into our team as our new head coach, is he, just 2 years ago… was 142.5kg’s.. with a young family and a lot of hard work ahead. Will started his journey on his own, with a boat load of determination and will power (pardon the pun). After trying a number of different training styles and methods he eventually found CrossFit and fell in love. Fast forward to now: Will is currently ranked as the 74th Fittest man in Australia (from the 2011 CrossFit games) and is about to start competing in the 2012 CrossFit games competition (which eventually crowns the fittest man and woman on earth).

Nathan has moved on and we thank him for his time spent working with us at Peak, Bootcamps and CrossFit Yamba.

The enthusiasm, passion and commitment to a healthy, fit lifestyle is inspiring to everyone Will is involved with. He’s a brilliant father, coach and leader. Watch out for some massive, excited changes coming your way in the next few weeks!!!

Cheers,

Dane

Wow, what an experience the last 8 weeks have been!

75 people registered on day one of the challenge, and we have some phenomenal stories of change, Loss (waistlines), growth (personal) and success.

Firstly I want to thank you for supporting this challenge in whatever way you could. We couldn’t do it without you. We’ve raised over $5000 for Bailey’s wheel chair and it really was an event for the whole community. We had over 23 local business sponsoring it, people coming out of the woodwork left right and centre just to give money to the cause and had a whole bunch of participants who loved every minute of it!

So, without further ado.. check out this video – find out who won, who got a runners up award and what a great day last sunday was!

Thanks for watching! Saturday’s are still on every saturday at 8:30am! If you’re a PT client, CrossFitter or Bootcamper it’s free!! If you just want to come and have some fun it’s $10! Give me a call on 6646 9546 if you want to get involved.. or turn up on Saturday!
Keep Chargin’

Dane

P.s. Don’t forget to watch the video right through.. you’ll find out who won the Your Best Body 8 week challenge (and the $1500 worth of prizes) plus you’ll find out how much money we raised!

This is a post from Kevin Daigle (www.DaigleBreathesFire.com) about why “we” like to push the limits and always challanege ourselves..

enjoy.

We make compromises and deals with ourselves and the world around us all day, every day. Some of these are as inconsequential as Snooki. (i.e. I didn’t have ANY fat today, so I’m putting cream in my coffee…suck it.). Some require more thought and careful consideration as to our goals and desired end state. There isn’t necessarily a right or wrong, there’s simply a choice. Do I want to make great strides in fitness? Or, perhaps in this moment I’d rather eat this cookie (again, suck it).

Here I am, this is me…it goes all the way to the bone.

There’s more to give here, MIGHT be posing for the camera…

These decisions we make affect us at our core when taken in total. The small choices might seem as innocuous as an odorless fart at the time, but add up an entire year of those decisions and you could be crop dusting the bible belt. There’s one particular brand of decision that’s more interesting than all the rest – How hard will I go?

The answer to that question holds sway over everything we do. What we decide to eat, what we do with our free time, relationships, CrossFit, etc. How much of yourself you’re willing to give to a thing determines how much you’ll ever get from it in return – it also tells the rest of the world a great deal. It shows how much that thing means to you…how important it is. Of course, there’s an ongoing risk vs. reward analysis that we conduct subconsciously. However, you need to weigh the perceived gains against what you must chance to get them.

If you want to be a fire-breathing monster in the gym you’re going to have make some executive decisions. If you want to find your soul mate, you’ll need to expose your true self in a way that can be very dangerous to your ticker. This is where intensity vs. reward comes into play. Perhaps not so intuitively, these things are not all that different. If you want to do Fran in two minutes, you’re going to have to go to a place of physical pain and suffering that demands that you cease to care about everything going on around you. You’re going to HURT…and everyone is going to see it. The moment where you almost quit, but don’t…will be as immediately apparent as Richard Simmons at a power lifting meet.

You can be that brilliant, unflappable hero – iconic and perfect – but you’ll have to forego much to do it.

If you only want to do Fran in four minutes, it’s not going to hurt as bad. You can probably get through that looking like a boss the whole time, and no one around will you be the wiser. They’ll think, “Wow….that girl is a warrior, it didn’t even look like that hurt her.” In reality you know the that’s true – It didn’t really hurt. If you’re ok with that, it’s not wrong it’s just a choice. You still turned in a great performance, albeit not the best. You didn’t get hurt though…you traded some intensity for the paper facade of self-inflicted comfort. You looked calm, poised, and strong. Never once did your weakness show, and you weren’t exposed. That’s ok. You can stay invincible by not wearing your heart on your sleeve.

It’s being true to yourself in an emotional and interpersonal sense. If you don’t give much of yourself, you’re never going to get banged up. However, you’re also never going to feel much of the good stuff. You can’t have a truly deep connection with another person (friendly or romantic) if you never share anything of yourself. You can be that brilliant, unflappable hero – iconic and perfect – but you’ll have to forego much to do it. You’ll never reach that level of intensity and openness – it’s a sliding scale. The more you open up, the more you share yourself the more richly you can experience those connections. But there’s a catch. In showing all of your imperfections and humanity you can get burned like Freddy Kruger – crispier than a Harvard Square resident.

When there’s nothing left to give, it’s just you – the real you.

The precipitous fall from this ledge tastes as foul as Gary Busey’s mouth on Monday morning. This leaves most of us guarded – both in the gym and in life. It varies by degree to be sure, but there are very few of us who are willing to lay it all on the line, shoulder the possible, even likely ass-pounding we could take for it, so that we might receive the most glorious of pay offs. It all comes back to the decision we made before we started – how hard will I go? This doesn’t really boil down to whether or not you’re a pussy – we have largely divergent tolerance to risk in matters of the heart – which both of these certainly are.

It’s when the bar is against your shins, and you just don’t fucking care what happens to you…you might eat shit, you might flame-out… You could start crying from the searing pain, or just totally fail to complete the task, but you don’t give a fuck. You’re all in. People will see you suffer, struggle, and look anything but powerful. They’ll see you come millimeters from complete emotional collapse…hell, you might even shit yourself – but you DON’T care. That’s who you are, and you’re living in the moment. You’re risking exposing who and what you’re really about to those around you so that you might achieve something great. Maybe you don’t cut it though, maybe you fall short of that goal. There’s heartache involved in being so utterly exposed, and not getting what you wanted – it’s gonna hurt like a Japanese Game Show – but there’s nobility in that.

Holding on to the shores of safety in a tempest will let you live to fight again, but it won’t let you see what’s beyond the waves. All it can give is a smug, scar-free outward appearance. While that saves face and looks nice on camera, it also makes you colder and deader inside than a frozen stripper. It’s like being emotionally unavailable with friends and loved ones. This is an easy comparison because we’ve all been here before, on one side or the other. It’s a sure way to avoid a broken heart, but it’s also a defacto guarantee that you’ll never feel any warmth yourself either. The intensity you give to a workout is analogous – bare your soul to the room…to the barbell, and really show what’s inside, win, lose, suffer, shit, or cry. Risk nothing, gain nothing.

You can’t fake it, it’s all over your face.

I post that if you haven’t been here yet, you’re not even at 25% of your potential. We’ve all been on the ground, exasperated, suffering after a WOD. But, if you’ve never been on the verge of crying your eyes out – you’re clinging to the shore. Let. fucking. go. If you never get burned, you’ll never know just how far you could have gone if you hadn’t hedged your bet because you were afraid to look foolish. People see this, and they know it’s real. We’re drawn to that. Those you care about in the gym, and elsewhere understand and are inspired by that level of heart and conviction. Even if the worst of the worst comes to pass, they will be there to get you through it.

I’ve been there more times than I care to count. For me, it might be a fatal flaw that I’m not more measured in how much I put out there for the world to see. I’ve been roasted for it – in the gym and in life. I’ve risked though, and I’m better for it. I wouldn’t trade one second of the moments of clarity, achievement, and true connection I’ve felt for an eon of security and cold, sterile safety. People have seen me on the verge of tears in the gym (and other places I’m sure) because I gave all I had, and I just couldn’t hold it together anymore.

Some people laugh at that. I feel bad for them, as they’ll never understand why some of us go so far. They’ve never felt what it’s like there, and unless they change their way of thinking they never will. I’ll keep doing it…because I know that there are kindred who’ll go with me. Those are the people I want to be around in the gym and everywhere else. No barriers, no insurance, no safety net. Just balls out, all-in, caution-be-damned intensity. Here I am, this is me…it goes all the way to the bone.

-DBF

What do you think?? Do you have what it takes to give it ALL?

Very Happy Friday actually..

What did you think of the blog and video from Wednesday? Pretty impressive results over the “toughest” time of the year. (it’s only tough if you let it be!)

They all showed immense commitment and drive to stick at their goals when it mattered, and whilst they are still working hard at getting better, fitter and stronger they’ve got a successful base to build on. Plus it’s much easier during summer!

Speaking of summer – I promised you a very special announcement on Wednesday morning… and here it is…

Excited? I know I am! (You can register here by clicking on Yamba Womens Bootcamps or Maclean Womens Bootcamps)

Here’s just a couple of What Last Seasons Campers had to say!

“Nervous was an understatement of how I felt on the first day of boot camp (my very first of any fitness related experiences )

I was very worried about my jigging bits, and keeping up with everyone and not knowing what or how to do a plank or a squat. Dane and his team demonstrated the exercises and you were encouraged to only go as fast or hard as you could, challenge yourself whether that be a sprint or a slow puffing panting walk which was my case. Take a breather then go again.
I was not yelled at embarrassed, (which I was afraid of) The Commando makes you work hard, but isn’t that scary.

The first week I was so sore and tired after the work out we were given a stretch and advise on recovery, exercise, food, diet.

The next three weeks I wasn’t as sore and had more stamina, and energy for my little boy, than when I started.. I am proud to say at the end of the 4 weeks I lost 7 cms overall and doubled the number of push ups I started with in week one.( I had to ask how to do one at the first boot camp !

I also am proud to say I walked to and from boot camp after the first week..

I feel so awesome and have more energy,

I am not continuing this year as I am 10 weeks pregnant with my second child morning sickness has turned to day sickness

“I heard about Peak Health’s new Boot Camp for women and thought that sounds like fun, I needed to get fit and ready for summer so I signed up, really worried how hard it was going to be and would I be able to keep up, but I have found it really fantastic. The feeling I get now from working out is unbelievable. I feel like a new person, full of energy and capable of anything.

I’ve lost 6kgs in the 1st 4 weeks, now in hooked. I love training in a group and don’t mind the push ups in the rain.

All the ladies and the trainers at Boot Camp are fantastic everyone is so supportive of each other, everyone is there to reach their individual goals.

Being a mother of 4 I’ve always thought that one day ill make time for me, but with 6am starts I’m home just after 7am ready to organize the kids for school. I’m on a high for the rest of the day.

I used to see people jogging and thought that you had to be super fit, now I can jog and keep up with my husband Brendan, I always walked for fitness and would make brendan walk with me, now we jog together, I feel I can do anything.

Thanks to Dane and the team. You made Boot Camp more fun than I ever imagined and I have learnt that working out and eating healthy really does get results.”

I’m not going to beat around the bush… last year we were full. Very Full. 35 People at a time were attending Yamba Bootcamp and Maclean got upto 22 (and we didnt start it until March!).. we’re capping the session at 22… When we hit 22, you will go onto a waiting list.

Hey!

How fantastic is this weather! I hope you’ve had a chance to get outdoors and enjoy the beach! I’ve got a great story for you today.. How 5 people have transformed their bodies.. during winter and are now looking and feeling fantastic! There’s one common theme that all 5 people have in common.. let’s see if you can check out what that is!

Did you work it out? It’s commitment. Cold Mornings – Turn Up. Injured – Turn Up. Kids are sick – Turn Up. Tired/Sick – Turn Up. It’s Your Birthday – Turn Up (It’s Tracey’s Birthday Today, she was there! Happy Birthday Tracey!) The act of turning up, even if you don’t do well or feel well (i.e. when you’re sick/tired) programs your mind and body to maintain the lifestyle.
We don’t work out through winter, because it’s easy to make excuses. We lack the commitment to ourselves and those who rely on us! (Family, friends etc.. Live the life you want them to lead!) Tracey, Dave, Mel, Jackie and Sue all started out “unfit” and built it from there. They started by coming in for a Body Diagnostic consultation and working out a plan to achieve their long term goals! And here’s the results…

Well Done Ladies! Smashed it!

It’s only 3 month’s till Christmas! 3 Months to a new you! Get into NOW! www.YambaConsultation.viprespond.com

P.s. Primal Living Newsletter is coming out next week! There’s a whole “get out doors and get active” workout section. 2 Home workouts you can do without equipment.

P.P.S. with the spring/summer rush we’re starting to fill up. Plus I’ve got some fantastic news coming this Friday morning for all the ladies! Keep your eyes on your emails!

Wow, What a few weeks it has been! The Your Best Body Challenge has absolutely blown me, and everyone else involved away! Congratulations to everyone participating and helping out a fantastic cause.
Well, The weather is warming up, spring is officially here and we’re out of the winter month’s.. I would tell you we’re gearing up for the spring/summer rush but it never slowed down from last year! So congratulations to every one of our top clients and members who have shown winter and the associated flab – who’s boss!
Today I’m going to share with you the top 5 ways to get the beach bod for summer – and don’t worry, I’ll leave my usual #1 out.. go hard during winter!

#1 – Set Big Goals

You need to set yourself a “compass” so you know exactly where you need to go with your training and nutrition. And don’t just set small goals. Small Goals that are easy to achieve won’t motivate you to make long term lifestyle change, the minimal effort you put in to achieve them won’t drive you to become better. I Have a rule, If I don’t get a little nervous and scared when I talk about my goals, they’re not big enough. Go Big!
Im organising a “Blast Past Your Summer Goals” Seminar for in the next couple of weeks. I’ve got a couple of cool bonuses for you as well.. keep your eye out, as it is one seminar you cannot afford to miss! It’s free to all, and is the key to getting your summer bod! Details announced soon.

#2 – Eat Fresh, Seasonal Spring/summer Foods

You are what you eat! No.. lets be more blunt. Eat Fresh, Seasonal healthy foods and you will look like you are ‘Naturally Fit.’ Eat pre-packaged, processed, preservatives and additives and you will look like you’ve been preserved, added too (with fat) and finely processed! Make sense?
The Paleo Diet/Lifestyle is the only way to be truly healthy. Our bodies cannot digest this relatively new “Food” (it’s not really food) and you pay the price.
To learn more about the Paleo Diet and “Living Paleo” check out our latest Primal Living Newsletter (if you haven’t got a copy email your postal address to info@peakhealthyamba.com.au and we’ll send you one right away). You can also request a Primal lifestyle Nutritional consultation with our resident Nutrition coach and Caveman – Jack. Call 6646 9546 now to book in, and find out how you can change your life by living “Paleo”

#3 – Move More, Up the Intensity

That’s right, you want to look and feel great. You gotta move more! Try the at home workouts in the latest Primal Living Newsletter, run on the beach, climb a tree, walk… for

One of Our CrossFit Sessions - Everyone is lookig Lean and Mean. Especially the Ladies! (You will never get "big and bulky" I promise!

god’s sake just MOVE! Move more, move better and move with greater intensity and you will look fantastic in no time flat. You see traditional gym workouts where you’re either doing long ‘Cardio’ sets or doing 3 sets of 5 reps on a machine or even with free weights is a really great way to waste your time, but atrocious way to look great for summer. You need to learn functional movements like squats, Pull ups, deadlifts etc. If you’ve seen the black CFY shirts all around town.. that’s because The Lower Clarence is starting to move better! They’ve embraced the functional style of training and you can too.. CrossFit 101 starts Monday 5th of September at 6:30pm – you can get all the info and register now by clicking here.

#4 – Bring a Friend

The Girls All Training Togethor Down At Wherret Park!

Some people love training on their own… most don’t. On those difficult mornings, when you really don’t want to get out of bed, having a friend that you won’t let down.. or won’t let beat you, will make a huge difference to your motivation. Once you’re up it’s easy! You’ll feel great afterwards and wonder why it’s always so hard to make that first move. Go and grab and friend and make the commitment to join a program or do it on your own. Working together you will both achieve a helluva lot more!

#5 – Get Out Doors!

The View From One Man's

We live in the most beautiful area of the world… Don’t waste it! Get out there and enjoy the outdoors! It’s such a fun, refreshing way to get fit if your not a ‘training’ person (as in you much prefer ‘activity based exercise’). Go for a jog, walk and go for a swim at one of many fantastic beaches. Or better yet – join a bootcamp. Our bootcamps are kicking off again on Monday 12th September, you can join up now by going to www.YambaWomensBootcamp.com or www.MacleanWomensBootcamp.com. Bootcamps are the most fun and quickest way for women who don’t like to “train” to get fit and have a fantastic body for summer. But be quick – they’ll fill up fast and there is ONLY 20 spots (last spring we had 35! We’ll keep them small and personal!)

BONUS Rule: Get A Coach.

OK - I promise I won't yell like this... unless you want me too?

Even the highest paid, top athletes have coaches, I have lot’s of coaches.. business coaches, Nutrition coaches and CrossFit coaches who I look to for advice. No matter how much experience or knowledge you have – you need a coach! You need the honest, frank appraisal of where you are at and how you are doing, you need the accountability that a coach brings, you need someone to push you and say “Shut Up and Train” when need be. Most of all you need someone else who cares about you and your health/fitness/goals, so that when times get tough you can do it together!

So there you go – My top 5 (well 6) ways to get ready for summer! Follow all of them and you’ll blow everyone away with your fast results and fantastic body. If you would like some help, I’d love to sit down with you for a body diagnostic consultation, where I can help you set goals and create a specific plan for you to get your best body ready for summer. Just Click This Link Here – to get your Free Body Diagnostic Consultation – or you can call me on 6646 9546.

Keep Chargin’

Sport is something that a lot of Australians are passionate.. well almost obsessed with! Me being one of the latter. So it’s only natural that when we stumble upon a program that has taken 4 out of 4 of our Rugby players to NSW Country Selections, Has transformed my life and sporting career (If you knew me growing up you’d understand – co-ordination and athletic ability were not my best friends) and taken one determined and extremely committed bloke from 142.5kg’s, to the fittest Man in The Clarence Valley AND the 74th Fittest Man in Australia and New Zealand. That’s only in about 4 short months..

I need to share this with you.

The program is called Your Next Gear – The future of Cutting edge sports performance Training Systems. Powered by our CrossFit methodology Your Next Gear will blow the lid off your boring and ineffective “strength and conditioning” program, you’ll build brute strength, cat-like agility and endurance that wears your opponents down before you even break a sweat!

..OK, so what do you do?

Let me tell you where most trainers go wrong with their “Sports Performance” or “Sports Specific” training programs. You turn up, they do a quick assessment and then your straight into it. If you’re a distance athlete you’re told just to get on the bike and ride. Play the Rugby Codes – sprints, biceps curls and bench press. Football (or to the uneducated – Soccer and Aussie Rules – Run, and when you can’t run, Run some more!.. I can hear you asking, what is wrong with that?

It’s ignoring the BASICS.
Every athlete needs to have a certain level of strength, endurance, co-ordination, agility and many other elements of fitness. If you don’t build a base of strength and fitness BEFORE you go into you Sport Specific training you will be WAY behind the pack. And Yes, runners, swimmers, triathletes.. all endurance athletes need this as much, if not more than their power based sport counterparts.

Not only will his performance improve with some strength training, he'll look healthier, and feel better!

What are the basics..?

There’s 10 general physical skills, you need to be competent in all ten to have a solid base to work from. They are Cardiovascular/Respiratory Endurance, Stamina, Strength, Flexibility, Power, Speed, Coordination, Agility, Balance, Accuracy. As an athlete you need to have a good level of all of these skills BEFORE you can start specializing your training. If you don’t do the base level work to develop these your performance will NEVER get to where it can and shoulder be. No matter how much “Sport Specific Conditioning” you do.
There is no sport that will not benefit from having a greater base level of fitness. So, I’ve written a report for you – “The Seven Never Fail Peak Performance Exercises To Take You From Good To Great In Any Sport In Record Time.” You can use this to start designing your own programs – or take advantage of a $250 free gift I’ve got for you

And that’s what Your Next Gear is about. Taking your base level well above where your competition is. And we’ll do that in just 30 days, teach you the basics, build a strong base of fitness and take your fitness and sports performance to the next level – no matter what sport you play or how young or old you THINK you are!
